Summary:A method for producing a transformable and embryogenic corn cell culture comprising: a) obtaining a Type II callus from corn embryos; b) initiating a cell suspension culture from cells of the callus; and c) culturing the cell suspension for about 5 days to 30 days in a liquid medium to produce the cell culture, wherein the cell culture is transferred to fresh growth media every 2-3 days; and wherein undesirable cell types are removed from the cell culture during transfer to fresh growth media.
