The invention relates to a mixing device (1, 1') for an application in a container (2) including a rotatable shaft (12); a drive device (13) through which the rotatable shaft (12) is drivable; and at least one mixing element (14, 14') arranged at the shaft (12), wherein the mixing element is rotatable together with the shaft (12), wherein the shaft (12) includes a support device connected with the shaft, wherein the support device is arranged in an end portion of the shaft (12) that is oriented away from the drive device (13), wherein the shaft (12) is rotatable about its longitudinal axis relative to the support device (15), wherein the mixing device (1, 1') is supportable through the support device (15) in a receiving device (11) connected with the container (2), wherein the support device (15) is moveable by a straight bearing or a rolling element bearing (16) along a guide device (9) into the receiving device (11), wherein the straight bearing includes at least one sliding surface that is moveable on a corresponding sliding surface of the guide device (9) or the rolling element bearing (16) includes at least one running roller (17) that is rollable on a rolling surface. In order to provide a mixing device and a fermenter combining the advantages of a vertical mixing device and of a ceiling device formed by a membrane it is proposed according to the invention that an angle between a longitudinal axis of the shaft (12) and vertical is increased during a transfer of the mixing device (1, 1') from a mounting position into an installed position.
