The present invention is further directed to a method of separating suspended or dissolved materials from a fluid stream, comprising contacting the stream with the separation medium described above. La présente invention concerne un milieu de séparation comprenant de la silice précipitée séchée à l'évaporateur rotatif ou séchée par pulvérisation. La silice a un rapport de BET à CTAB qui est d'au moins 1,0 mesuré avant toute modification de surface de la silice. La présente invention concerne également un procédé de séparation de matières en suspension ou dissoutes à partir d'un courant de fluide, comprenant la mise en contact du courant avec le milieu de séparation décrit ci-dessus.
