The present invention relates to ophthalmic compositions and methods for the treatment of dry eye and other inflammatory ocular conditions. In particular, the present invention relates to a composition comprising an esterified anti-inflammatory lipid mediator, which is an ester of an anti-inflammatory lipid mediator that is a reaction product of the anti-inflammatory lipid mediator and a polyol wherein the majority of the anti-inflammatory lipid mediator is present in an ester form. In this way, the compositions are substantially free of an acid form of the anti-inflammatory lipid mediators. Anti-inflammatory lipid mediators can be selected from the group consisting of polyunsaturated fatty acids (e.g., omega-three and omega-six fatty acids), resolvins or a metabolically stable analog, protectins or a metabolically stable analog, lipoxins or a metabolically stable analog, prostaglandins or a metabolically stable analog, retinoic acids, endocannabinoids, metabolites thereof, and mixtures thereof. This composition can be topically delivered to the ocular surface via a preparation, solution, gel, ointment, and/or strip and/or a contact lens. La présente invention concerne des compositions ophtalmiques et des procédés de traitement de l'il sec et d'autres états pathologiques inflammatoires de l'il. En particulier, la présente invention concerne une composition comprenant un médiateur lipidique anti-inflammatoire estérifié, qui est un ester d'un médiateur lipidique anti-inflammatoire, un produit de la réaction du médiateur lipidique anti-inflammatoire avec un polyol, la majorité du médiateur lipidique anti-inflammatoire étant présent sous sa forme ester. De cette manière, les compositions sont pratiquement exemptes de la forme acide des médiateurs lipidiques anti-inflammatoires. Les médiateurs lipidiques anti-inflammatoires peuvent être choisis dans le groupe comprenant des acides gras polyinsaturés (par exemple, des acides gras oméga trois et oméga six), des résolvines ou un analogue stable du point de vue métabolique, des protectines ou un analogue stable du point de vue métabolique, des lipoxines ou un analogue stable du point de vue métabolique, des prostaglandines ou un analogue stable du point de vue métabolique, des acides rétinoïques, des endocannabinoïdes, des métabolites de ceux-ci, et des mélanges de ceux-ci. La présente composition peut être administrée de manière topique sur la surface oculaire par le biais d'une préparation, d'une solution, d'un gel, d'un onguent, et/ou d'une bande et/ou d'une lentille de contact.
