A control system and method for an agricultural toolbar is provided. A wheel is coupled to the toolbar and engages a ground surface. An actuator is coupled to the toolbar and is disposed to modify a ground force related to a net actuator pressure between the wheel and the ground surface. A fluid control system is in fluid communication with the actuator and is operable to bring the actuator pressure to a desired actuator pressure. A weight transfer pressure sensor is coupled to the actuator and a controller is operable to modify a desired actuator pressure so that the sensor signal becomes closer to a desired weight transfer signal value. A weight transfer actuator connects the tractor and the toolbar and is operable to transfer weight between the tractor and the tool bar. The weight transfer signal comprises a signal related to the pressure of the weight transfer actuator.
