The improved NAL unit header can further include fields for reference picture management and to identify temproal layers. L'invention concerne des techniques pour un codage vidéo pouvant être mis à l'échelle, multivue et multidescriptif utilisant un en-tête d'unité de couche d'adaptation de réseau (NAL) amélioré. Un en-tête d'unité NAL peut comprendre une identité de couche qui peut être une référence dans un tableau de descriptions de couche, qui spécifient les propriétés de la couche. L'en-tête d'unité NAL amélioré peut comprendre en outre des champs pour une gestion de cliché de référence et pour identifier les couches temporelles.
