A pressure vessel (10) includes a main body section (12) and an end section (14). The end section (14) includes a boss (16A, 16B) and the boss (16A, 16B) includes a flange (3OA, 30B). The flange (3OA, 30B) includes an interior keyway (44) having an inner sidewall (50) and a plurality of bores (48) disposed on the inner sidewall (50). In another aspect, a pressure vessel (10) includes an outer shell (18), an inner liner (20) and a boss (16A) including a flange (30A) with an exterior side (62) and an interior side (60). The liner (20) is mechanically integrated with the flange (30A) via a plurality of anchors (49), each anchor (49) contacting the flange (30A) only on the interior side (60). A method of forming a pressure vessel (10) includes providing a boss (16A, 16b) having a flange (3OA, 30B). The flange (3OA, 30B) has an interior keyway (44) having an inner sidewall (50) and a plurality of bores (48) disposed on the inner sidewall (50).
