A SPACER FOR INERTIAL REMOVAL OF THE NON-RESPIRABLE FRACTION OF MEDICINAL AEROSOLS

The invention comprises a medicinal inhaler spacer (100, 200) OR actuator comprising a chamber (130, 230) having a proximal end (132, 232) closed by a proximal plate (140, 240), a tangentially aligned inlet (110, 210) on the proximal end (132, 232) of the chamber (130, 230), a tapered distal end (13...

Summary:The invention comprises a medicinal inhaler spacer (100, 200) OR actuator comprising a chamber (130, 230) having a proximal end (132, 232) closed by a proximal plate (140, 240), a tangentially aligned inlet (110, 210) on the proximal end (132, 232) of the chamber (130, 230), a tapered distal end (134, 234), and an outlet (120, 220) extending through the proximal plate (140, 240) into and communicating with the chamber (130, 230). Spacers (100, 200) of the present invention may be used to increase the respirable fraction of a medicinal aerosol inhaler. The invention also comprises medicinal aerosol inhalers and methods of delivering drug to the lung of a mammal employing these spacers.
