A transformer is formed by a housing having a main transformer compartment, a first compartment for the input terminals for the main power supply, a second compartment for the output terminals to supply the load and a third compartment for a manually operable switching unit, where each of the compartments is maintained separately from each of the others and each has a manually openable interlocked cover which can be opened to provide access to an interior of the respective compartment. The switch assembly has switch contacts mounted within a switch container located within the third compartment and a manually operable member mounted one on side wall located within the third compartment outside the switch container for moving the switch contacts between open and closed positions. The switch container has a transparent window in a wall thereof through which the contacts can be observed and an insulating liquid bath maintained separate from an insulating liquid bath for the transformer assembly. Transformateur formé par un boîtier comprenant un compartiment principal pour le transformateur, un premier compartiment pour les bornes d'entrée de l'alimentation électrique principale, un deuxième compartiment pour les bornes de sortie servant à fournir la charge ainsi qu'un troisième compartiment comprenant un dispositif de commutation pouvant être actionné manuellement. Chacun des compartiments est séparé des autres et comporte un couvercle interverrouillé pouvant être ouvert manuellement afin d'accéder à l'intérieur du compartiment. Le commutateur comporte des contacts de commutateur à l'intérieur d'un boîtier de commutateur placé dans le troisième compartiment ainsi qu'un élément pouvant être actionné manuellement sur une paroi latérale, à l'intérieur du troisième compartiment et à l'extérieur du boîtier de commutateur, servant à faire passer les contacts de commutateur entre les positions ouverte et fermée. Le boîtier de commutateur comprend une fenêtre transparente, à travers laquelle les contacts peuvent être observés, dans l'une de ses parois, ainsi qu'un bain de liquide isolant maintenu séparé d'un bain de liquide isolant du transformateur.
