Summary:A method for updating terminal operating characteristics over a communications link from a host is disclosed. The video display terminal is capable of operating with a graphical user interface such as Windows.RTM. an d provides windowing functionality to permit use of popular applications programs resident on a server, without requiring more than application data to be transmitted from the server, and keyboard and mouse information to be transmitted from the terminal to the server. This invention is useful in implementing a terminal which is relatively inexpensive, reliable, ready to administer, secure and capable of displaying application program information within a multiuser Windows.
