Summary: | A structural member of automobile exhibiting excellent bending strength and energy absorption characteristics while reducing the weight. The structural member is formed of a high tension steel pipe having such material characteristics as tensile strength of 1400 Mpa or above and elongation of 5% or above and having closed cross-sectional structure in the direction perpendicular to the long axis. Assuming the maximum dimension of the cross section in the longitudinal direction is a, the maximum dimension in the perpendicular direction to that direction is b, the outer circumferential length is L, and the wall thickness is t, the cross-sectional shape of the member satisfies following relations (1). 0.65 <= b / a <= 0.75 0.014 <= t / L <= 0.020 (1) When the member is fixed to body, it is disposed such that the longitudinal direction of the cross-sectional shape is aligned with the direction of collision. |
