Summary:Disclosed herein are a cyclohexenol derivative represented by the following general formula (1): (see formula 1) wherein R1 to R5 are independently a methyl group or a hydrogen atom, and X is an alkylene or alkenylene group having 10 to 28 carbon atoms, and a medicament comprising the derivative as an active ingredient. The cyclohexenol derivative (1) exhibits neurocyte growth-accelerating effects such as neurocyte-growing effect and neurite-outgrowing effect and is hence useful as an agent for preventing or treating diseases caused by nervous degeneration, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
