Summary:A thermal printer (10) prints linerless labels (13) in such a way that print er components will not stick to the adhesive face of lin erless labels. Substantially stationary printer components, such as a label guide (15), transport plate (16), front panel, and stripper bl ade (42), preferably have the adhesive face engaging surfaces (50) thereof plasma coat ed so that adhesive will not stick to them. An optional cutter (60) provided downstream of the stripper blade also has plasma coated surfac es (62, 67). A driven print roller (17) has a surface t hereof coated with or covered by a high release silicone, which will not stick to t he adhesive, but has high friction characteristics to fa cilitate drive of the labels. In a direct thermal printer, a plasma coated tear-off surfac e (90) is downstream of the driven print roller, and str ipper belts (91), a second roller with O-rings (93), and the like are provded to prevent the labels from wrapping around the driven print roller . One or more sensors (85) may also be provided for controlling drive of the print roller in response to the position of registration mark s on the linerless labels.
