Summary: | A sensor assembly for controlling a passenger restraint system of a vehicle during an accident, such as an electronic tripping circuit of an air bag and belt tightening system of a motor vehicle, includes a sensor unit having a surface. A breakage and deformation-vulnerable sensor configuration is disposed in the sensor unit for detecting at least one of acceleration and deceleration with a seismic composition. A mount secures the sensor unit to an object, such as a part of a circuit housing. A soft, resilient damping element contacts the surface of the sensor unit. The damping element damps incident mechanical jarring of the sensor unit upon a hard impact, such as a bump occurring after an unintentional dropping of the circuit housing containing the sensor unit, in contrast to an impact acting directly on the sensor unit during an accident. |
