Summary: | "SYMBOL DEFINITION APPARATUS" -- -- Apparatus (20) and a method are disclosed whereby Chinese characters may be defined for entry into a word processor or the like by providing eight entry keys (31 to 38), each of which represents one of the character stroke forms used in Chinese character writing. The characters are stored in a character memory unit (24) in the form of strings of character stroke form codes, along with the stroke entry order designated by convention. The entry keys (31 to 38) are pressed in the known convention stroke order, and characters not including the designated strokes in the entered order are discarded by a selection process until the desired character or a small selection of characters is defined. The official stroke count of a character may also be entered as a search criterion. |
