Summary:A method for the continuous production of alkyl-esters of saturated aliphatic carboxylic acids by reacting olefins with carbon monoxide and alkanol in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a cobalt compound and an activator from the group pyridine and/or non-ortho-substituted alkyl-pyridines, at an elevated pressure and an elevated temperature, starting with olefins having at least 8 carbon atoms, the reaction being carried out in a reactor in which the flow-characteristics may be adjusted in such a manner that tubular flow without re-mixing predominates; and in which the charge-materials are introduced, from the beginning, in a desired ratio.
