Summary:A local anesthetic composition having the ability to penetrate unbroken skin on topical application and giving a deep and prolonged anesthesia. The composition consists of a solution containing at least 1 % (w/v) of the base form of the compound c-diisopropylaminoethoxybutyrophenone dissolved in a solvent comprising 40-70 % (v/v) isopropanol and 10-60 % (v/v) glycerol. The invention also relates to a method for improving the skin penetrating ability for the base form of the compound o-diisopropylaminoethoxybutyrophen-one by dissolving the compound in a solvent comprising 40-70 % (v/v) isopropanol and 10-60 % (v/v) glycerol. The composition of this invention has a more rapid on set and longer duration than known anesthetic compositions.
