Patente de Invenção: "PRODUTOS MOLDADOS DE POLIOLEFINA E POLIFENILóXIDO E MéTODO PARA A PRODUçãO". Produtos de poliolefina e polifenilóxido (8) tal como produtos fabricados usando poliestireno expandido (EPS) ou polipropileno expandido (EPP). Uma "folha" ou "camada" (18) de vinil ou outro material decorativo adequado é associada com o produto para atingir uma aparência agradável e uma superfície exterior de alguma forma satisfatória. Para fabricar o produto, a camada é posicionada sobre a cavidade (14) de uma peça de molde fêmea (10). O molde é fechado e, com ou sem a ajuda do vácuo, a camada é trazida em contato com as superfícies do molde fêmea (22) durante a introdução do plástico. Esse plástico é introduzido na forma de pequenas gotas selecionadas do grupo consistindo de poliolefina e polifenilóxido que foram pré-expandidas em uma redução de densidade na ordem de 75%. A pressão do ar é usada para alimentar as gotas dentro da cavidade do molde (14) e vapor é injetado para amolecer as gotas e para causar a sua união em uma massa integral. Além disso, a camada externa das gotas é unida na folha (18), por meio disso, uma peça em uma parte é removida do molde. A invenção também considera a adição de uma estrutura de armação (30) na peça acabada em uma parte para facilitar a fixação em uma porta de metal laminado ou outro suporte. A armação (30) pode ser posicionada em associação com as peças do molde (10) usando prendedores de algum tipo. A armação (30) é então integrada com a peça plástica durante uma etapa de moldagem e a peça ser, então, prontamente presa em uma porta de metal laminado ou semelhante. Polyolefin and polyphenyloxide products such as products made using expanded polystyrene (EPS) or expanded polypropylene (EPP). A "foil" or "skin" of vinyl or other suitable decorative material is associated with the product to achieve a pleasing appearance and an otherwise satisfactory exterior surface. To make the product, the skin is positioned over the cavity of a female mold part. The mold is closed and, with or without vacuum assistance, the skin is brought into contact with the female mold surfaces during introduction of the plastic. This plastic is introduced in the form of small beads selected from the group consisting of polyolefin and polyphenyloxide beads which have been pre-expanded to a density reduction in the order of 75%. Air pressure is used to feed the beads into the mold cavity and steam is injected to soften the beads and to cause bonding thereof into an integral mass. In addition, the outer layer of beads is bonded to the foil whereby a one-piece part is removed from the mold. The invention also contemplates the addition of a frame structure to the one-piece finished part to facilitate attachment to a sheet metal door or other support. The frame may be positioned in association with the mold parts using fasteners of some sort. The frame is then integrated with the plastic part during a molding step and the part can then be readily attached to a sheet metal door or the like.
