Uma cabeça de revestimento, e aparelho e métodos de revestimento usando a cabeça de revestimento, para a aplicação de um material de revestimento isento de solvente em um artigo de tira avançando longitudinalmente em uma linha de revestimento. A cabeça inclui uma matriz (128) tendo uma fenda transversal (134) através da qual o material de revestimento é depositado na superfície da tira e tendo uma porção de plataforma (160) com uma superfície de plataforma estendida (130A) no lado de saída da fenda, a matriz sendo sustentada para movimento normal à superfície da tira, e um ou mais cilindros pneumáticos ou hidráulicos exercendo uma carga pelo menos na porção da plataforma da matriz para impelir a superfície da plataforma para a tira, onde a matriz é constituída de um corpo principal e a porção de plataforma, e a porção de plataforma é de tal forma conectada no corpo principal da matriz (128A) de modo a ser capaz de flexionar em relação ao corpo principal da matriz em uma direção normal à superfície da tira mas a resistir a flexão na direção de avanço da tira na linha de revestimento. The head includes a die having a transverse slit through which the coating material is deposited on the strip surface and having a land portion with an extended land surface on the exit side of the slit, the die being supported for movement normal to the strip surface, and one or more air or hydraulic cylinders exerting a load on at least the land portion of the die to urge the land surface toward the strip, wherein the die is constituted of a main body and the land portion, and the land portion is so connected to the main die body as to be capable of flexing relative to the main die body in a direction normal to the strip surface but to resist flexing in the direction of strip advance in the coating line.
