Summary:1417566 Magnetic storage arrangements WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 22 Nov 1972 [24 Nov 1971] 53927/72 Heading H3B To enhance the response of a magnetoresistive detector 20 in a moving single-wall domain system, a domain approaching the detector is elongated in a direction transverse of the propagation path by a chevron propagation pattern of magnetically-soft elements 16 arranged so that their total in any stage increases with nearness to the detector, the domain being reduced to its original size after detection by progressive reduction of the number of elements in the stages following the detector. The magneto-resistive detector may comprise a permalloy strip formed with the magnetically-soft elements in a single photo-resist process, and may connect the apices of the readout stage of the chevron pattern. The system may include a feedback path 40 for recirculating detected domains: The return path for the detector to a utilization circuit 22 may be through a similar permalloy strip associated with a propagation stage having fewer chevrons, Fig. 3 (not shown). The detector may be pulsed periodically for read-out at selected times. Domain propagation is effected by an in-plane magnetic field 18.
