Summary:1311181 Vinyl esters DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 1 April 1970 [2 April 1969] 15491/70 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Vinyl esters of carboxylic acids containing 9 to 19 carbon atoms and of general formula CH 3 CR1R11COOCH = CH 2 , where R1 is hydrogen or alkyl and R11 is alkyl, or R1 and R11 together with the carbon atom to which they are attached form a cycloaliphatic ring, may be prepared by reacting the corresponding olefins with carbon monoxide and water and transesterifying with vinyl acetate. In Example (1) C 8-10 alkenes obtained by partial hydrogenation of cracked paraffins are reacted with carbon monoxide and water in the presence of phosphoric acid and boron trifluoride, and the resulting acids transesterified with vinyl acetate in the presence of mercury phosphate.
