Summary:An electronic communications network for environmental systems control has a number of nodes (11-17) as sources for certain types of status messages. One node (11-14), designated the coordinator node, stores a status message source list which associates the nodes assigned status message type and transmits all or a part of the list on the network. These source nodes can also transmit messages on the network requesting responsibility for furnishing a particular type of status message. Upon acceptance of a request message, the coordinator node enters the node and status message type into the source list.
