Summary: | An epitope of high molecular weight melanoma associated antigen (HMW-MAA) displayed on the surface of human cells but not cells from Macaca fascicularis is described, said epitope a) having the ability of being specifically blocked by and specifically block a binding structure which recognizes HMW-MAA, b) being displayed on the surface of human cells but not cells from Macaca fascicularis, and c) having a normal tissue distribution pattern which is more restricted than that of other known epitopes of HMW-MAA. There is also described a binding structure and antibodies recognizing target structures of said antigen, pharmaceutical compositions and vaccines as well as methods of using said epitopes and antibodies in diagnostic and therapeutic methods related to human malignant diseases. |
