Summary:The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 1-(trialkoxybenzyl)piperazines of the general formula < IMAGE > in which R1, R2 and R3 denote identical or different alkyl radicals having up to 4 carbon atoms. The process is characterised in that a suitable 2-piperazinone is prepared in a first step and reduced in a second step to give a compound of the formula I. In the first step, the piperazinone is preferably prepared by reaction of a suitably substituted trialkoxybenzyl chloride with 2-piperazinone. The reducing agent used in the second step is preferably LiAlH4 or B2H6.
