A method of communicating data using radio signals transmitted between a mobile station (MS) and a plurality of base stations (BS) as the moble station (MS) moves within a radio coverage area provided by the base stations, the method comprising the steps of: transmitting the radio signals using first communications resources between the mobile station and a first of the base stations; detecting when the mobile station has entered a hand-off region; in which communication via the radio signals might be more efficiently effected through at least one different base station; allocating further communications resources associated with the at least one different base station; detecting when communication can be more efficiently effected via the different base station; transmitting the radio signals using the allocated further communications resources associated with the different base station; and releasing the first communications resources, thereby providing substantially uninterrupted communication of the data as the mobile moves with respect to the base stations, whilst minimising interference to other communications.
