Summary:1383331 Automatic control of speed RANK ORGANISATION LTD 12 April 1972 [7 May 1971] 13747/71 Heading G3R [Also in Division H2] Periodic energisation of an electric motor 10, e.g. driving a film 13 in an electronic video recording player, is varied in response to recurrent signals from a driven member, the recurrent signals being modified in response to said recurrent signals and reference signals (e.g. the energizing source for the motor), the recurrent signals, the energizing source and the reference signals all having a predetermined relationship. Pulses from photo-cell 18 are "stretched" in device 26 by an amount dependent upon the phase difference, derived at 35, between the pulses and an A.C. supply source 14, 15. An error rate term is added at 36 for damping purposes. The stretched pulses are coupled to the trigger of thyristor 20 via transformer 28 whereby the trailing edge of each pulse provides the triggering signal. Thyristor 20, by being connected as shown, provides a variable D.C. component in the A.C. supply to the motor 10, which has a braking effect.
