Summary:Hydroxyethoxybenzamide derivatives of general formula (I) or pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof, which exhibit both a dopamine D2 receptor blocking activity and a 5-HT4 receptor stimulating activity and are useful as gastrointestinal function improvers suppressed in the development of extrapyramidal symptoms: [wherein R is halogeno; R is lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower haloalkyl, lower haloalkoxy, or halogeno; ring A is a benzene ring or a cyclohexane ring; and n is 0, 1, or 2]. The derivatives and the salts are effective against reflux esophagitis, epigastric unidentified complaint, gastritis, gastric ulcer, and other diseases.
