Abstract A storage system comprises a first set of parallel rails or tracks extending in an X-direction, and a second set of parallel rails or tracks extending in a Y-direction transverse to the first set in a substantially horizontal plane to form a grid pattern comprising a plurality of grid spaces, a plurality of stacks of containers located beneath the rails, and arranged such that each stack is located within a footprint of a single grid space, a location at which a product is to be added to a container;, control unit arranged to detect the product based on an image of the product captured by an imaging unit. The control unit comprises an image receiving unit arranged to receive an image of the product from the imaging unit, a determining unit arranged to determine an identity of the product based on the received image, commanding unit arranged to, when the determining unit fails to determine the identity of the product, command an indicating unit to indicate that the determining unit has failed to determine the identity of the product, and a transporting device, the transporting device being arranged to selectively move in the X and/or Y directions on the rails above the stacks and arranged to transport the container to another location in the storage system.
