Summary: | The invention relates to a novel reaction resin for an intumescent coating and to a process for producing this resin system. Intumescent coatings are used, in particular, in fire control for metal components, such as girders in building construction. In the event of fire, these coatings reactively expand, forming a fire-resistant insulating layer with low thermal conductivity around the metal girder and delaying a premature failure of this component by the insulation thus formed. The present invention relates, in particular, to resin systems that are produced using a novel process in which the monomer fraction is only polymerized to a maximum degree of 70%. The glass transition temperature of the polymeric component in the composition thus formed, is particularly low in comparison to that in prior art. |
