Provided is a sleep-promoting composition containing, as an active ingredient, bacteria belonging to Bifidobacterium breve. The sleep-promoting composition according to this technology can prolong sleeping time by prolonging non-REM sleep and REM sleep, reducing voluntary behavior during sleep, reducing awake time during sleep, and so on. The sleep-promoting composition according to this technology can also reduce awaking difficulty in the daytime. The sleep-promoting composition according to this technology can be used in a medicinal composition and a food and beverage composition.
