The present invention relates to a device (10) which is designed and configured for the optical inspection of articles in the fish and meat processing industry, comprising at least one imager (12) arranged so as to be encapsulated on all sides in a housing (11) and configured to optically scan the articles. The housing (11) has a transparent viewing window (13), and a protective element (15) forming a light-permeable channel (16) is arranged releasably on the outside of the housing in order to protect the viewing window (13) against contamination. The invention further relates to an arrangement for processing and inspecting the opened abdominal cavity (30) of skinned fish (29), comprising a conveyor (26) which is configured for conveying the fish (29) in a longitudinal direction (27) along a processing line (28) and is characterised in that the arrangement comprises at least one device (10) for optically inspecting the abdominal cavity (30).
