Summary:This steel having high hardness and excellent ductility includes, in mass%, one or more species of C: 0.40-1.00%, Si: 0.10-2.00%, Mn: 0.10-1.00%, P: 0.030% or less, S: 0.030% or less, Cr: 1.10-3.20%, Al: 0.010-0.10%, and V: 0.15-0.50%, and further Ni: 2.50% or less, Mo: 1.00% or less, where (C + V) accounts for, in mass%, 0.60% or greater, and the balance is Fe and unavoidable impurities. The steel has a martensitic microstructure in which Fe-based ε-carbides are finely dispersed, and the former austenite grain size is 20 μm or less.
