Summary:The present invention addresses the problem of providing a cell cryopreservation liquid and a liquid for application to mammalian cells capable of cryopreserving mammalian cells and effectively suppressing cell death after thawing, and a method for cryopreserving mammalian cells using said cell cryopreservation liquid. Cell death after thawing can be suppressed more effectively than with of prior-art mammalian cell cryopreservation liquids when an isotonic solution including: 2.0 to 6.0% (w/v) of trehalose or a derivative thereof, or a salt of trehalose or the derivative; 4.0 to 7.0% (w/v) of dextran or a derivative thereof, or a salt of dextran or the derivative; and DMSO or glycerin is used as a mammalian cell cryopreservation liquid or a liquid for application to mammalian cells, and mammalian cells are cryopreserved in said cell cryopreservation liquid.
