The power tool (electric cable cutter (1)) pertaining to the present invention comprises a cutter unit (10) for performing a cutting operation and a cutting operation control part (20) for on/off control of the cutting operation. The cutting operation control part (20), upon being turned on, causes the cutter unit (10) to move toward an end position of the cutting operation, and, upon being turned off, stops the cutter unit (10) from moving if the cutting operation has not been completed at the time of turning-off of the control part, or causes the cutter unit (10) to move toward a standby position thereof, that is, the position before the cutting operation was started, if the cutting operation has been completed.
