Summary:The present invention relates to compositions comprising lidocaine and a 5 surfactant, wherein the composition forms a eutectic mixture. More specifically, the present invention relates to compositions comprising a surfactant selected from the group consisting of glyceryl caprylate, glyceryl laurate, glyceryl monostearate, poloxamer 188, sorbitan stearate:sorbityl laurate, and PEG40 stearate. The compositions have application as a means of rapidly effecting local anaesthesia in a 10 patient in need thereof.
