Summary: | APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR FORMING PILOT HOLES IN BONE AND DELIVERING FASTENERS THEREIN FOR RETAINING AN A method for fixing a positioned sheet-like material to bone, the method comprising the steps of providing a position retention sleeve (304) having a lumen (310) extending therethrough and at least one position retention member (314) proximate a distal end of the position retention sleeve (304); providing a trocar (302) sized for being releasably disposed within the lumen (310) of the position retention sleeve (304), the trocar (302) including at least one distally extending spike (308); positioning the trocar (302) within the position retention sleeve (304) with the at least one spike (308) extending beyond the distal end of the position retention sleeve (304) driving the spike (308) into bone to form at least one pilot hole; removing the trocar (302) with the position retention member (314) maintaining the sleeve (304) position relative to the at least one formed pilot hole; providing a staple delivery device (200) having a barrel (205) sized for disposition within the lumen (310) of the position retention sleeve (304) wherein the barrel (205) is keyed for controlled rotational position of the barrel (205) relative to the position retention sleeve (304); and, inserting the staple delivery barrel (205) into the sleeve lumen (310) and deploying a staple. |
