Abstract The invention relates to an injection device (10) for administration of an injection to an animal, which has a main body (12), which contains an injection instrument (26), a contact device (14), 5 which has a contact area (34) which is shaped in conformity with a body part of the animal to which the injection is to be administered, a support device (16) which supports the contact device (14) on the main body (12) movable in a pressure application direction (D), a force measurement device (18) having at least one force sensor (42a, 42b, 42c), which is designed to measure at last one force with which the contact device (14) acts on the main body (12), and a 10 control device (S) which activates the injection instrument (26) if the force measured by the force measurement device (18) lies in a specified range.
