Composite inspection

COMPOSITE INSPECTION A method of detecting local material changes (246) in a composite structure (202) is presented. A pulsed laser beam (220) is directed towards the composite structure (202) comprised of a number of composite materials (203). Wide-band ultrasonic signals (226) are formed in the co...

Summary:COMPOSITE INSPECTION A method of detecting local material changes (246) in a composite structure (202) is presented. A pulsed laser beam (220) is directed towards the composite structure (202) comprised of a number of composite materials (203). Wide-band ultrasonic signals (226) are formed in the composite structure (202) when radiation of the pulsed laser beam (220) is absorbed by the composite structure (202). The wide-band ultrasonic signals (226) are detected to form data (240). The data (240) is processed to identify a local frequency value (272) for the composite structure (202). The local frequency value (272) is used to determine if local material changes (246) are present in the number of composite materials (203).
