The mechanical separator has a body having a through-hole for allowing fluid to pass therethrough and includes a first portion, having a first density, and a second portion, having a second density different from the first density. The body defines a longitudinal axis extending perpendicular to the through-hole, and exhibits a first compression value when a force is applied to the body along this axis. The body also defines an axis extending perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and along the through-hole and exhibits a second compression value when a force is applied along this axis. The first compression value is different than the second compression value and may be less than the second compression value..
