Summary:A method is disclosed of transmitting positioning signals to a receiver for use by the receiver to compute an estimated position of the receiver. The method causes each transmitter in a transmitter network to broadcast a positioning signal. Each positioning signal comprises a pseudo random number sequence and assistance data. The transmitters are synchronized using a timing reference, and a time difference correction is determined autonomously at the transmitters and is provided to the receiver.
