Summary:COMPOSITE DRIVE BEAM FOR SURGICAL STAPLING An end effector (400) includes a mounting portion (430) that mounts to a surgical stapling apparatus, first and second jaw members (410, 420) extending distally from the mounting portion (430), a drive beam (500) engagable with the first and second jaw members (410, 420), and a threaded drive screw (424). The first jaw member (410) includes a first tissue engaging surface (411) and the second jaw member (420) supports a fastener cartridge (420a). The fastener cartridge (420a) includes a second tissue engaging surface (423a) that defines fastener retaining slots (423b) that support fasteners. The drive beam (500) includes a retention foot (520) formed of a first material. The retention foot (520) defines a threaded bore (522) that supports a threaded insert (530) formed of a second material. The threaded drive screw (424) is threadably engaged with the threaded insert (530) and is rotatable to distally advance the drive beam (500) along the threaded drive screw (424) to fire and form the fasteners.
