The present invention involves a method for adjusting the longitudinal spacing between a shoulder strap and a hip belt of a backpack: providing a backpack assembly comprising: a frame assembly including a hip belt attached to a lower portion thereof;a shoulder strap assembly including a shoulder strap and a yoke, said shoulder strap assembly being selectively movable longitudinally relative to said frame assembly; a hook and loop fastener having a hook member and a loop member, one of said hook member and loop member being attached to said frame assembly and the other of said hook member and loop member being attached to said yoke; an adjustment sheet configured to be selectively insertable between said hook member and said loop member to effect separation thereof and to permit said shoulder strap to move longitudinally relative to said hip belt; inserting said adjuster sheet between said hook member and said loop member to interrupt an attachment therebetween; adjusting said shoulder strap assembly longitudinally relative to said frame assembly while said adjuster sheet is inserted between said hook member and said loop member; and removing said adjuster sheet from between said hook member and said loop member allowing said hook member and said loop member to attach together.
