Summary:Abstract A lifting unit 10 for a loading dock 16 includes a movable platform 18. The platform 18 is movable relative to a fixed support 30 from a lowered position to a raised position. The movable platform 18 has a platform base defining a platform floor 22. The lifting unit 10, including the movable platform 18 and the fixed support 30 is mountable on a substantially level support surface 12. The combined thickness of the platform base in the lowered position and any portion of the fixed support 30 lying beneath the platform base defines a low profile so that the platform floor 22 is substantially level with the support surface 12, or at least within approximately 80 to 85mm.
