Summary:The assimilated C and N largely influence plant growth and crop yields. Previous attempts to alter the carbon and nitrogen status of the plants attempted with one or two genes The present invention involves simultaneous co-overexpression of three genes wherein one gene (PEPCase) efficiently capture CO2 whereas the other two encode for enzymes (Asp AT and GS) involved in nitrogen assimilation. The combined effect is the enhancement of carbon and nitrogen status of the plant and the productivity.
