Summary:The present invention generally relates to an apparatus and method for compensating a landing string due to movement of a floating rig platform. In one aspect, a system for use with a landing string disposed in a riser is provided. The system comprises a housing connectable to a first landing string joint. The system further comprises a piston rod connectable to a second landing string joint. The piston rod is configured to move relative to the housing between an extended position and a retracted position as the floating vessel moves relative to the landing string.
