Summary:A thermal acoustic system is a medical imaging device, such as a catheter, adapted to measure the temperature of portions of a lumen of a living being. In one embodiment, the catheter includes a transducer configured to receive a thermally generated acoustic wave when located within the lumen and output a first signal corresponding to the intensity of the received thermally generated acoustic wave. In one embodiment, the thermal acoustic system also displays a temperature measurement, or relative temperatures, of the lumen mapped onto an image of the topology of the lumen. The catheter can further include an elongated, tubular member configured to allow the transducer to move within the elongated member and a control system configured to move the transducer such that it can radially and axially scan the temperature of the lumen.
