Summary: | Mobile communication devices or mobile station positioning methods may be improved by employing an inertial positioning system in the mobile station. The inertial positioning system is to be used in conjunction with a primary MS positioning method (such as UL-TOA, E-OTD, or A-GPS) to determine the location of the mobile station. The inertial positioning system, using the last known position as a point of reference, continually computes the latest position of the mobile station using measurements gathered from sensors. The inertial positioning system calculated location may periodically be used in lieu of invoking the primary positioning method. In doing so, this method aims to improve time taken to locate position of a mobile station, and provide location estimates in situations where the primary positioning method is unable to do so. |
