Summary:A novel Nogo receptor-like polypeptide is found out as a protein showing elevated expression in the skeletal muscle of a Zucker fatty rat, which is a diabetes model rat, having a restricted diet and taking exercises. Moreover, a human homolog protein corresponding to it is found out. The above polypeptide is useful as a diabetic marker and a remedy for diabetes. Since this polypeptide is expressed most strongly in the cerebral cortex in the brain, it is also useful as a marker for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and a remedy for neurodegenerative diseases.
