Summary:Method of diagnosis or prognosis of heart failure or heart insufficiency and, if appropriate, the need of a prophylactic treatment, comprising the step of determining the amount of relaxin peptides or fragments or isoforms thereof in a sample of a body fluid such as blood serum or blood plasma, preferably by using polyclonal or monoclonal antibodies which bind peptides or fragments or isoforms of relaxin. Relaxin relaxin peptides or fragments or isoforms thereof can also be used for preparing a medicament for treatment or prophylactic treatment of congestive heart failure, for inhibition and modulating the effect of endothelin-1 and angiotensinll and also for prophylactic treatment of heart failure.
