Summary:The method involves transmitting optical signals between the transmitter (12) and receiver (20) of a WDM transmission system (11) in a transmission band via an optical waveguide (16). The optical signals are Raman-amplified with the use of a pump (38). The amplification profile of the Raman amplification is distorted in the transmission band. The distorted amplification profile is rectified to compensate for the distortion.
